Based on decades of experience, the materials consulting and testing service of MM section provides support to define, select, specify and assess materials in view of the final application requirements. The extensive knowledge of advanced material processing and technologies available on an industrial or research scale together with a wide network of contacts in the field of material production or with specialized laboratories, allow the section to support development or improvement of a large variety of materials intended for specific applications.

The MM section ensures as well a regular revision of the available CERN store technical specifications or helps in drafting them, and supports the stores in the procurement of raw materials, from the examination of the technical proposals and the assessment of the Manufacturing and Inspection Plans, to the follow-up of the industrial production and the reception at CERN of the supplied materials.
